Rabi Narayan Swain Memorial Chair
Rabi Narayan Swain Memorial Chair is established under Social Development Foundation to support the meritorious students perusing Social Work education. The Chair was to encourage talented, hardworking and self-motivated students from low economic background who will be perusing Social Work education. The chair will provide both financial and non-financial support to the selected Social Work learner/s. However, the financial assistance provided to the learners will be not like a complete donation rather a need based immediate support to the learner/s. In turn, the student wills payback through part-time voluntary services for the interest of the Chair as part of practical/project work for social work education during the 1st year of the study period. The learner has to return the money soon after she/he is engaged in earning activities without any rate of interest. This financial support can be considered as interest free education loan to the learner/s during her/his academic life during Social Work education.

The chair is committed to see those meritorious students having financial constrains to pursue higher studies have easy access to interest free financial assistance to purse social work as profession and actively engaged in the social development activities especially for development of weaker sections of society.

The Chair is guided with the core value of humanity; it never seeks for any identity of the beneficiaries or programme partners. The Chair is operating beyond the boundaries of caste, religion, creed, color, sex, and place of birth, language or any others. We are moved with humanitarian attitude to support the talented, self moved and enthusiastic social work learner/s with financial need.
Legal Status
The Chair is the initiative of Social Development Foundation-SDF which is a registered organisation. This chair will be a sister concern of SDF with a separate Board to formulate policies of the Chair. This board will be ensuring the smooth function of the Chair to reach the objectives set before the Chair.
Bala Krishna Memorial Foundation
To honor one of the founder members of this organisation, Late Bala Krishna Nayak, the Bala Krishna Memorial Award was thereby established in 2019.
Shri Bala Krishna Nayak served as advocate, judge, law practitioner in several districts across Odisha. In his final stint he served as the District Judge of Khurdha. He was an ardent reader and writer. Post retirement he was a member of the Disciplinary Proceedings Tribunal, Odisha. After this he served as the President of Consumer Court, Khurdha on honorarium for 5 years. During his stay at different places throughout Odisha such as Baliguda, Phulbani, Balasore etc. he worked to establish various community clubs comprising of intellectual people. These clubs aimed at serving the under developed people in those communities. Among his colleagues, he was widely respected and recognized as the ‘Krishna Iyer of Odisha’. Apart from this, he was a loving and caring husband, father and grandfather to whom the entire family could look up-to and rely upon.
Late Bala Krishna Nayak was an alumnus of Madhusudan Law College, Cuttack. The institute is widely well-known throughout Odisha as an established law institute. Hence, SDF decided to approach the esteem institution of Madhusudan Law College, Cuttack towards collaboration for launch of this program.
As a part of this initiative, SDF extended a funding worth Rs. 100,000 (One Lakh Rupees) towards a Mute Court competition on the foundation day of the college or on 24th September on occasion of his Birth Anniversary. The mute court enables the law students of the college to compete and bag the award. This shall help in supporting the students to grow professionally and excel in oratory practices that will help them become efficient law practitioners.
